Taipei City - 肥貓漁夫

Value for money: 8/10
Cleanliness: 10/10
Service: 10/10
Quality of food: 7/10
Overall: 8/10

Tucked away just behind the MRT station and next to QingGuang Market, this little place is very unassuming.

Inside boasts very modest decorations and nothing particularly extravagant.

I love watching sushi being cut, there is such time, precision and dedication taken on each stroke of the blade.

Sushi isn't all about raw food - like what most people think. Occasionally they blast it with one of these hand held flames to give it a caramelized flavour and varied texture.

All dishes are plated with such care and delicate of touch (even the biggest of men appear so delicate).

Look at the knives!

You'll receive this with each dish.

And inside the well flavoured miso soup was a lurking pork ball. It was very delicate and soft with a low fat content - making it very crumbly, but remarkably moist.

1. 漁夫推薦海鮮丼 yú fū tuī jiàn hǎi xiān dòng  $320

For the sheer quantity of varied fish in this bowl, I think the price is very good, indeed. Often you will pay a lot more ($400-$500) for a bowl of such quantity. The quality isn't (I feel) as good as LaoJiao but, nevertheless, is very tasty. The best were: salmon and the shrimp. The shrimp was so delicate and succulent.

2. 每日限量海鮮丼 měi rì xiàn liàng hǎi xiān dòng  $180

This is even better value - a sushi bowl for $180!

Not as diverse as the previous sushi bowl, but still plentiful and filling. The fish is fresh and has a great depth of flavour to it.

3. 炙海膽茶碗蒸 zhì hǎi dǎn chá wǎn zhēng  $120

The uni in this dish has been torched on top with the hand held blowtorch prior to serving. The egg is wonderfully delicate and creamy, with pieces of fish sunk within it, too. It isn't worth the $120, though, I don't feel. If it was $80 then I'd be a bit happier about it.

My bowl was polished clean.

It left me feeling a lot like this cute chopstick stand...

Overall, I think this place is great value for money, but due to the value for money it lacks in quality compared to others of its kind.

$620.
